Dumaguete is the capital of the island of Negros and the city is right on the sea. The island found a form of existence in the cultivation of sugar cane and is now experiencing economic problems due to the rise of artificial sweeteners.
You come in a not very touristy environment and the resorts are located by the sea to focus on divers. Yet the island has unique places: there are the 'Twin Lakes' in the mountains, an oasis of peace in the tropical rain forest, and boat trips are also organized to spot dolphins. The city of Dumaguete has a market square on which a continuous "exhibition" of remains of the Second World War can be seen.
The population is talkative and is happy to come and chat if you rest on a bench on the seafront.
